270 Climbing
Calling all 11–16 year olds looking to get off the ground and into climbing this summer!

It’s finally happening – climbing at 270!!!! Come introduce yourself to the awesome sport of bouldering and be one of the first to climb the walls at 270!

What’s Bouldering?

Bouldering is low-level climbing, on walls up to 4m high with thick padded crash mats below. There isn’t any equipment involved – so no ropes, helmets or harnesses are needed (don’t have to worry about having the right stuff or fork out on buying loads of kit), though a pair of climbing shoes are really useful – which are handily included free as part of the sessions!

The aim is to follow routes (called problems) on the walls in the form of different shaped climbing holds. Every problem is unique and ranges in difficulty from pretty easy to insanely hard. They all have a solution, but these can differ from one person to the next depending on people’s body shape and abilities. The keys to success rely more on mental development, problem solving and technique than just pure physical strength and stamina – it’s a dynamic workout for both body and mind. This means that bouldering is easily accessible and simple to pick up the basics and suitable for all abilities. The other great thing about bouldering, is how social it can be (if that’s what you’re after). Oh, and it’s also loads of fun – what’s not to like!

What’s NICAS?

National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) is a UK-wide recognised scheme that introduces children to climbing through an enjoyable, structured programme.

The fundamentals you learn in these introductory sessions can be applied to progressive levels of NICAS (they go all the way up to Level 5!). They can also be used towards DofE and even GSCE’s, and of course more challenging bouldering walls (our B2 gym is gonna be amazing!) and much higher roped-climbing walls!   As part of the sessions, you get a NICAS logbook to monitor your development and record your achievements. Click here to find out more about NICAS.

The Sessions

The important bit! Sessions take place in Boulder One, our brand-new bouldering area at 270 Climbing Park. The zone has been specially created as a place for novices, beginners and young people taking their first steps on their bouldering journey and to begin learning and developing climbing techniques. With our Level 1 Intro to NICAS Bouldering sessions, we’ll teach you the key skills, movements and safety practices needed to get up on the walls and to start improving your climbing skills – all under the astute eyes of our fully qualified coaches.

Sessions take place in small groups (max of 6 people), from 10am–12pm, over five consecutive days (so everyday from Monday to Friday) on the dates below..
