The films in more detail:
Big Walls and Bedtime Stories (15mins)
As part of their year of “education through adventure,” professional climber Leo Houlding shares his favourite place with his favourite people. From home-schooling at 2,000 feet to portaledge snowball fights, Jackson and Freya scale the Muir Wall on El Capitan, supported by Mum Jess and Dad Leo. Come and hang out with the family!
The diminutive Tina Breslin at 5′ 2″ finds solace in climbing highball boulder problems. Recently diagnosed with ADHA Tina’s overactive brain can be a difficult place to be and it is in climbing highballs where Tina finds focus and harmony. We follow Tina’s climbing year through many stunning lines in North Yorkshire and the Lakes all supported by gentle giant: Ian Henderson, Tina’s partner weighing in at 6′ 4″. Much like Tina the film is a sweet and charming exploration of the mental benefits of climbing as she battles her neurological state and a severe lack of reach. The grand conclusion raises the stakes with an attempt at ‘Hang the Gallows High’ a route where falling is not an option.
Trad Stars (60mins)
2025 proved to be one of the best trad climbing years in living memory, and filmmaker Al Lee has been on a mission to document its most incredible ascents. Trad Stars celebrates UK trad climbing in all its glory – the colourful characters, the rich history, the thrilling lines, the awesome climbing!Highlights include:
- Jaw-dropping onsights from the likes of Siebe Vanhee, Robbie Phillips.
- First ascents from Ian Cooper.
- Super-impressive hard repeats from Billy Ridal (Rhapsody E11 7a) and Katie Keely (Always the Sun, E7 6b)
- Blind climber Jess Dufton making his most impressive ‘non-sight’ to date with an ascent of the Pembroke route ‘Howling Gale’, E3 6a.
This epic documentary celebrates the brilliance of British trad climbing with action from today’s heroes, but also with an eye on the history and ethics that make UK trad unique. Cameos from Zoe Wood, John Dunne and Tanya Meridith all help paint an entertaining and vibrant picture of today’s trad climbing scene. The film unfolds across some of the UK’s most amazing locations, from the Cuillins to Pembroke, from Sca Fell to Torridon via Yorkshire limestone. Strap in for another classic to rival anything in the BritRock canon.
