270 Climbing

ahead of your visit

We’re looking forward to welcoming you to 270!

Whether you are visiting us for the first time, or if you’re a regular, ahead of your visit there are some things that are useful to know and should help your experience go smoother.

LET’S GET READY!

SAFETY MATTERS

Ahead of your fun session you will watch our Safety Brief Video. This will help you get a feel for what’s involved and understand some of the key do’s & don’ts while on the walls. Don’t worry if you’re not sure about anything covered or forget something as we’ll be there to help.

We hope you’re excited and looking forward to visiting us, however if you have any queries or issues in the meantime, please take a look below or do get in contact.

You can also look through our FAQs for loads of helpful information at any time, but here’s a quick reminder of the most useful things that you need to know!

getting to us

The park can be accessed via two ways but the best way to get to us is to head for the Twelve Bells & Premier Inn in Little Witcombe. If following a sat nav or online map, please enter the following postcodeGL3 4SS – this will direct you to the Twelve Bells. From there, simply continue going along Cirencester Road towards Bentham. Continue through Witcombe village, following the road around to Bentham Lane, and tada as if by magic, 270 Climbing Park will be waiting for you on your left!

We recommend not turning into Bentham Lane or Old Coach Road directly from the A46 – particulary if you are in a large vehicle. These roads are winding, narrow country lanes and are single-track in places which makes passing difficult and they are often used by horses and dog walkers. Instead, please continue along the A46 until you reach the Crosshands Roundabout in Brockworth and then carry along the Cirencester Road.

If coming from Birdlip direction we recommend not turning into Green Lane. Again, it’s a narrow road.  Instead, please continue along Ermin Way and then turn right at the Twelve Bells into Cirencester Road and make your way on to Bentham Lane.

You can not get to us from the A417 – even though you’ll see us from the road, you cannot access the park from the A417 – and if travelling up the hill you’ll have quite a detour to get back to us!

supervision

Over 8 year olds can go on the walls by themselves but younger than this will require adult supervision to be able to help with clipping in and out. One adult can supervise up to three under 8 year olds. Youngsters aged 8 to 16 do not require direct supervision but an adult must remain within the park during the session. Our Instructor’s will be on hand to supervise things and of course help if needed.

arriving

When you arrive, please make your way to Reception to check in. We’ll hand you your wristbands and then guide you to the Fun Walls area for the start of your session!
If you can, try to arrive at least 10 minutes before the advertised start of your session – especially if you haven’t visited before. This should give you enough time to get checked-in and to find your bearings (toilets, cafe bar, etc) and hopefully sort out some of the following important elements below!

belongings

No bags or backpacks are allowed on the walls so try to leave them at home, in your car or with someone watching. The same goes for any loose jewellery or items of value. Try to bring essential items only with you.
Please empty your pockets of belongings like phones, keys, coins etc. As well as potentially being uncomfortable, there’s the risk of them becoming damaged or falling out and hitting someone.  We have a number of lockers available around the centre, please note these will require your own padlock.

hair

To help save on time, it may be worth sorting out any long hair before you attend the safety briefing. If you are lucky enough to have long hair please tie it back to prevent it getting entangled in any of the equipment.

clothing

Try to wear something that’s light and comfortable that allows you to move around –  Avoid wearing a hoody if you can, if you do wear one we will ask you to tuck the hood inside. Obviously we’re indoors so you dont need to worry about wet or windy weather but the area still gets pretty warm in the summer and much cooler during the winter so shorts & t-shirt is fine if it’s a nice day outside, or sweathshirt and legging/jeans will be ok if its a chilly day. Whatever the weather remember you’ll hopefully be moving around a fair bit so best leave anything thick, heavy or restrictive at home!

It is important that you wear footwear that isn’t going to fall off easily, and also covers your heel and toes – so no crocs, flip-flops or slippers!  A trusty pair of trainers or shoes will be fine. For hygiene reasons with transfer on the climbing holds, please make sure your footwear is pretty clean – no muddy boots ok!

Any jewellery and body piercings that we deem to be a entanglement risk or a safety issue must either be removed or taped over.

toilets

We have multiple toilets within in the main building – all are signposted but if you can’t find them please ask any member of the team. To save on time we strongly suggest trying for the toilet before you make your way down to the Fun Walls for the safety briefing and start of your session. It’s also a lot trickier to go to the toilet with a harness on!

etiquette

On the walls people go at different speeds and different people find different climbs easier or more of a challenge. If you are waiting for someone who is taking a long time on a particular element then try climbing another and come back to it later.
If there are people waiting below to climb the element that you are on, don’t feel pressured or rushed to complete it quicker than you feel comfortable with. Equally though, once you have reached the top, do the right thing and move on to another element to allow the next person to have a go.

parties and groups

For groups and those having a party, we know it can be like herding cats but try to keep all those who are climbing, together ahead of your start time – this really helps keep things on track and ensures everyone is ready for the action!

and finally…

That’s about it! Like we say please take a look through our FAQ’s if there’s anything else not covered here. If you have any further questions or any concerns at any stage of your visit, please just ask any member of the 270 Team – we’re here to help!

Hope to see you soon!
